Project: Konica Minolta

Design Chamber International (DCI) have been appointed to design and refurbish Konica Minoltas head offices in Eastern Centre North Point. The project has two floors and a net area of 25000 square feet. Interestingly the project is phased as the offices will be occupied throughout the renovation. The space planning was complex as there are many different departments each with many teams and so the connections between them and other departments were critical for efficient working practices. All of the services are renewed and upgraded to much more efficient green standards. The project will be...

Central Park Manila Phillipines

The capital City has horrendous traffic and parking problems. This scheme was to provide over a thousand car parks in the centre of town and to be self financing. The structure is based on a cut and fill technique which is inexpensive and shown in the first section. We found sites adjacent to replant the trees and shrubs so that none of the habitat was destroyed. Above the car park was a shopping mall which made the complex financially viable, with 150,000 sm of shopping space. This was lit by a variety of light wells from glass pyramids to water falls. At the new raised ground levels the...

Proposed 5-Star Hotel Chong Quing PRC

This design for a 5 star 500 bed hotel incorporates Steve Bourne’s patented solar.fin smart energy system (Link) which will easily comply with China’s tough energy laws whilst maintaining a modern curtain wall appearance. The main facades face south east and south west maximizing energy gain whilst at night the façade and roof can cool the building by several degrees. Effectively the building becomes like a flower opening and closing to suit the needs of the building and providing a very low carbon foot print. The design has different height “shoulders” and a spectacular roof top...

Renovation of Fung House Canopy Central Hong Kong

Using the existing cantilevered slab as a basis for the new structure DCi transformed and updated the entrance of Fung House with a sloping aluminium canopy. Access was still required to the balcony which lead to an ingenious curved cut out that we think gives a little smile to the building. DCi also renovated the main entrance lobby and guard desk to make it feel spacious but more personal without the obvious presence of a...
